MEET TREY
New Leadership Dedicated to Investing in New Bern's Future
Hello, I’m Trey Ferguson, and I have the privilege of serving as the Alderman for New Bern’s Ward 1. I am a local government lawyer with Sumrell Sugg, P.A., a Deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of New Bern, and a proud husband and father raising a young family with my wife, Kelsie.
As a resident, parent, and engaged member of our community, I believe deeply in the future of our city. My background as a former high school math teacher and my current work as a local government attorney and civil litigator shape a practical, solutions-driven approach to public service.
Before joining the Board of Aldermen, I served on the New Bern Board of Adjustment and the Craven Community Foundation, experiences that strengthened my understanding of our city’s needs and opportunities. My legal practice—focused on land use, planning, and local government—has prepared me to help navigate the challenges of growth while preserving the character and history that make New Bern unique.
My work as Alderman centers on strengthening essential city services and supporting responsible, sustainable development that benefits our neighborhoods and our long-term future. I am committed to transparent, accessible leadership and to working collaboratively for the good of Ward 1 and all of New Bern.
Thank you for your interest and for your engagement in our community. I look forward to continuing to serve and to building a stronger, more vibrant New Bern together.
Sincerely,
New Bern Alderman for Ward 1
